How to enjoy Ubud… (Part 1)

Ubud village in the uplands of Bali, is famous of the traditional art and culture. The rainforest, rice terraces, Hindu temples and shrines, are among Bali’s most famous landscapes, known also as the best place for relaxing your soul. If you want to get away from the hectic and busy life, Ubud could be the best choice as it is quiet and remote. There is no club as in Kuta and the nightlife is just as quiet as in the jungle, with jangkrik sound krik krik krikk :p

Ubud with it’s well known art, culture, and genuine Balinese lifestyle will always be a delightful place to visit. This first article will talk more about Ubud trekking and culinary, and there will be more about museums, art shops, and traditional dance in the next post. Let’s get started from the scratch!

Warung Cahaya (Crispy Pork)

Whoever loves pork must be in love with this small shiny warung at Dewi Ratih street. As it’s name, this food stall is really bright (cahaya) with so many windows and mostly white colored interior. Located in the middle of the city crow but only a few people knows this place. So cute and cozy for a small food stall and so affordable for the tasty and juicy crispy pork, really worth it.

Balinese Suckling Pig…

We are so exited, ramblers! Today we would talk about the most famous Balinese Cuisine! – in our version. It is ‘Nasi Babi Guling‘ or Suckling Pig Rice, lol. According to our observation so fat far, one of the best Nasi Babi Guling in Bali is a plate from this Warung Be Guling Pak Malen. It was once located on the nearest corner of the crossroad. It is currently moved to a bigger place, not so far away from the first place.

Pak Malen 1

As this food stall is quite famous among the tourists, it became a bit pricey nowadays. It costs IDR 45.000 per portion. Or maybe depends on the buyer? haha, we don’t know! A portion of Nasi Babi Guling in this restaurant is quite complete and -in our opinion- worth the pay. One portion package is consisted of a  plate of white rice, a plate of side dishes (lawar: vegetables, pieces of pork, pigskin crackers, crispy grilled pigskin, fried pork liver, satay, sambal, etc.), a bowl of soup (pork broth with chopped vegetables: those diced yellow things are local vegetables called jukut gepang), and it served with a drink too (basically a glass of fresh Ice Tea).
